Walking tour of Campus and Downtown. Led by Dr. Steve Mead. Students will have opportunity to see some local architecture, artwork, and become acquainted with downtown. Meet at CET at 2pm.

CSE 476, Preparation for Capstone Design. Rm 245 (Final Course in the Design4Practice Sequence).
This course, which exists in all disciplines, is dedicated to the planning phases of a major engineering project, which is then implemented during the spring term in CSE486, Capstone Design.
On this class day, we will be inviting potential sponsors in to speak to students about the projects they would like implemented.

Interested students meet in front of College of Engineering at 4:30.
Details:
Frisbee golf is a popular student pasttime. A number of CET students will attend and provide extra frisbees for visitors.

Deutscher Stammtisch at Ni Marco's pizzeria.

Transportation:
Ni Marco's pizza is located several blocks north of campus, within easy walking distance. The address is 101 S. Beaver Street.
Details:
Every week the Flagstaff German community meets for pizza at Ni Marcos. This usually includes international students, students in German classes and German-speakers from the community. Students will pay for their own meals.

SW Windpower Tour. Hosts: Jay Jaeger

Transportation:
Meet at CET at 8:30. Van and driver supplied by CET. Dr. Doerry is driver. Visitor Dr. Bernd Delakowitz from Germany will accompany.
Details:
Southwest windpower is a major manufacturer of wind turbines, and is interested in engineered alternative solutions to energy needs. A number of NAU graduates have found successful careers with this company.

Mount Elden Hike.

Transportation:
CET will provide can van and driver. Tour will leave directly after the SW Windpower tour (we will not come back to NAU in between!). Dr. Doerry is driver. Visitor Dr. Bernd Delakowitz from Germany will accompany.
Details:
Mt. Elden is the mountain directly north of town, topped by a fire lookout tower. The hike up follows a trail through several climatic zones ranging from desert to aspen forest. Very beautiful. Climb the tower and sign the guest register at the top! CET students are encouraged to attend as well, but will likely need to provide their own transportation.

BBQ at Rancho Meyerhofer hosted by NAU Intl. Office. Reception and BBQ at the house of Dr. Nick Meyerhofer, director of the NAU International Office.

Address = 2155 N. Foxhill. Take Butler east, almost to end of road (circa five miles from intersection of Butler and San Francisco St.). Turn left onto Foxhill; 2155 is on left side of road; there is a stone wall in front of house.

Saturday 9/21

Visit to San Francisco Peaks and Sky Ride.

Transportation:
Driver will be Carlo Marino. Meet at 9am at CET. Dr. Earl Duque will accompany the group.
Details:
Opportunity to enjoy the fall colors in style. Will involve hiking in the aspen forest, with optional skyride (students pay own tickets) to the top on Sky Ride with opportunity to see sights and hike. Several CET students will attend for a max. group of 16. A picnic lunch will be provided.

Transportation:
Van, driver, park entry fee provided by CET. Driver is Paul Trotta (cellphone: 606-2519)
Dr. Mel Neville will accomany in personal vehicle.
Details:
Departure at 10:00 from CET. Lunch will be "fast food" (self-pay) at Canyon. Return trip will involve a stop on the Navajo Reservation at a trading post, where people may purchase jewelry etc.
May be room in van for a couple of CET students. Also, students and faculty are encouraged to take their own vehicles.

Monday 9/23

Tour of W.L. Gore Industries manufacturing plant. Host: George Bain, senior engineer.

Transportation:
CET provides a van and driver. Meet in front of CET at 1:30 pm. Dr. Doerry is driver.
Details:
W.L. Gore is not only the producer of the well-known Gore-Tex material that one finds in most outerwear these days, but also it the leading producer of advanced medical products like vascular patches, and so on.

Other CET students and faculty are encouraged to attend but must (a) provide own transportation and (b) let Eck Doerry know ahead of time because we must request security clearances for attendees.

Tour of Onsite Wastewater treatment facility. Host: Dr. Paul Trotta

Details:
The On-Site Wastewater Demonstration Program directed from within Northern Arizona University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, provides a training, demonstration, and research facility to the people of Arizona to encourage the use of the best available technologies for the treatment and disposal of residential wastewater, thereby fostering improved surface and groundwater quality, as well as overall public and environmental health.

Other hosts:

The Sustainable Water Resources Alliance applies the technical expertise of Northern Arizona University's College of Engineering and Technology, in concert with other public and private organizations, to the enhancement of water resource management and research in Arizona and the Southwest

Details:
Meet in front of CET at 8:45. We will walk up to the SWRA lab.
